Praxedis police chief beheaded, mass resignations ensue
PRAXEDIS, CHIHUAHUA — Mass resignations by police officers Monday have left the towns of Praxedis Guerrero and Guadalupe without police officers. The resignations come in the wake of the beheading of Manuel Castro Martinez.
The towns are located to the east of Juarez right across the border from Texas in an area between Fabens and Fort Hancock.
The head of the 62-year-old Praxedis police chief was found inside an ice chest left at the doorstep of City Hall late Saturday afternoon. Chihuahua State Police officials said the chief and five members of his police force were kidnapped by armed gunmen earlier that day.
Martinez had been on the job for only three days, according to El Diario de Juarez.
Officials said a note was left inside the chest but did not specify what it said.
Earlier in the week, two members of the Guadalupe police force were gunned down. No arrests have been made.
